Sensory Processing Disorder

Sensory Processing is the way the nervous system receives messages from our senses and then interprets them to create a response. For some people the messages are received but they are not sent the correct responses causing sensory processing disorders.

These incorrect messages are prevalent in many physical and mental health issues that affect an individuals ability to participate in every day activities. These can include:

Sensory Processing Disorder/ Dysfunction

ASD (Autism)

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

Sleep and Behavior issues

Dyspraxia

To assist with aiding individuals with Sensory Processing issues and to understand what helps them process these inappropriate messages we can be more understanding of individual needs, provide Sensory Aids, knowledge and therapy so that they are offered the same opportunity as everyone else in our community.

SPD Australia and Aspect offer a large range of helpful links and information to better understand Sensory Processing.
