    How to Teach Your Child to Tell the Time

    The easiest way to use the Time Teacher Clock is to teach one concept at a time.

    Step 1 – Start with the hour hand
    Show your child the hand labelled Hour. Explain that the shorter hour hand tells us which hour it is. Start by practising simple O'Clock times such as 2 O'Clock, 5 O'Clock and 8 O'Clock.

    Step 2 – Introduce the minute hand
    Once they understand the hour hand, introduce the hand labelled Minute. Explain that this hand tells us how many minutes have passed during the hour.

    Step 3 – Learn the four key positions
    Use the clearly marked positions on the clock to practise:

    O'Clock → Quarter Past → Half Past → Quarter To

    For example:

    Minute hand at O'Clock → “3 O'Clock”

    Minute hand at Quarter Past → “Quarter past 3”

    Minute hand at Half Past → “Half past 3”

    Minute hand at Quarter To → “Quarter to 4”

    Step 4 – Put the two hands together
    Encourage your child to look at the minute hand first to identify whether it is O'Clock, Quarter Past, Half Past or Quarter To, then look at the hour hand to complete the time.

    With regular practice, the simple visual cues help children build confidence and gradually move towards reading an ordinary analogue clock independently.
